Sotavento Beach is, for us, the most spectacular in Fuerteventura. Nearly 10 kilometers long, this beach will leave you speechless. It consists of five beach stretches, which can be walked in their entirety at low tide.

The sand is fine and of a light golden color, and the water has that intense turquoise tone that seems unreal. The most characteristic feature of Sotavento is the shallow lagoon that forms at low tide, bordered by a sandbar. It is considered one of the best spots in the world for kitesurfing, and the world championship is held here every year.
Tip: the wind can be very strong. Secure everything well. Also, when you go to take photos in the lagoon, watch where you step because sometimes there are fish waiting for the tide to rise.

2. Cofete Beach – Wild and Remote
Cofete Beach is simply stunning. It spans 12 kilometers of pristine beach in one of the most isolated and spectacular corners of Fuerteventura. To get there, you have to take an unpaved road of about 9 kilometers that winds through the mountains of the Jandía Natural Park.

Cofete is Wild Nature, very fine golden sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. The impressive high mountains of the natural park are in the background, and a sea that is almost always rough with waves. It’s a beach for contemplation, for walking for hours, for feeling the power of nature. It’s not the best for swimming due to the strong currents, but its wild beauty is unmatched.
Important advice: although you can get there with a regular car by driving very carefully (we went at the end of January 2026 and the road is better than at other times; we went in a Fiat Panda), the ideal is to go in a high-clearance vehicle or 4×4. Keep in mind that many rental car companies do not cover insurance in this area.

3. Grandes Playas de Corralejo – Infinite White Sand
Over 8 kilometers of beaches with very fine white sand bordered by the impressive Dunes of Corralejo, a Natural Park that seems to transport you to the Desert. The views towards Isla de Lobos complete a perfect postcard.
These beaches are divided into several sections: Playa del Pozo, Playa del Médano or Grandes Playas Corralejo, Playa del Viejo, Playa El Bajo Negro, Playa Larga, Playa de los Matos, Playa del Dormidero, Playa del Moro / Glass beach, Playa de la Alzada.

Just 2 kilometers by sea from Corralejo, Isla de Lobos houses a spectacular beach. Playa la Concha de Lobos (also known as La Caleta) is located on the southwestern part of the islet.

To get there, you need to obtain a free permit (processed online) and take the ferry or speedboat from Corralejo.

If Playa de la Concha seemed incredible to us, El Puertito left us absolutely speechless. This small bay of crystal-clear water is like a natural pool and is, without a doubt, one of the best spots.
The water is so clear that visibility is perfect. Be sure to bring your snorkel gear when visiting Isla de Lobos.
7. Playa de Los Lagos in El Cotillo – Paradisiacal Coves
Playa de Los Lagos is actually a succession of small coves that stretch for almost a kilometer. White sand, crystal-clear and calm waters, and an atmosphere of absolute peace. It is simply magical.
Each cove has its own charm and you can explore until you find your favorite spot. It is a very popular place among naturists, although there is room for everyone and the atmosphere is super respectful.

8. Playa del Matorral in Morro Jable – Beauty and Services
Playa del Matorral in Morro Jable, also known as Playa de La Solana, is the main beach of Morro Jable. It is nearly 4 kilometers long and is one of the largest on the island. What we love is the contrast: on one side you have full infrastructure with shops and restaurants, and on the other, the Saladar de Jandía, a Site of Scientific Interest that protects unique vegetation.
The waters here are spectacular, and it is one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura for snorkeling. We saw a bunch of different fish. Access is via wooden walkways that protect the natural space, which we think is great.
9. Playa Esmeralda in Costa Calma – Total Versatility
Playa Esmeralda offers a perfect combination: areas protected from the wind ideal for families, and other areas perfect for windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle surfing, and snorkeling.
What’s interesting about this area is that some sections are protected by rocks, dunes, or cliffs, creating more relaxed microclimates. You can spend the entire day exploring different spots and find exactly what you’re looking for.
10. Piedra Playa in El Cotillo – Mecca of Surf
Also known as Playa Grande, Playa del Aljibe de la Cueva, Piedra Playa is over 1.5 kilometers long with darker sand and strong waves. It is one of the favorite points for surfers in Fuerteventura.
The landscape here changes completely compared to the coves in the north of El Cotillo. It is wilder, more exposed to the wind and swell. If you like surfing or just watching the surfers in action, this is your place.
Additionally, the sunsets from here are some of the most spectacular we saw on the island. The colors that appear in the sky are simply magical.
11. Playa del Castillo in El Cotillo – Cinematic Sunsets
Right next to Piedra Playa, Playa del Castillo gave us some of the most incredible sunsets of our time in Fuerteventura. The old Torre del Tostón (the castle that gives it its name) adds a historical touch to the landscape.
It is a long beach with golden sand, perfect for walking at the end of the day. The atmosphere is quieter than in Piedra Playa, although the swell can also be significant depending on the day.
12. Los Charcos in El Cotillo – Virgin Coves
About 5 kilometers from the town of El Cotillo, Los Charcos are another series of coves less frequented but just as spectacular as Los Lagos. Here you will find even more tranquility and a wilder atmosphere.
The waters are crystal-clear and shallow in some areas, perfect for relaxing. It is ideal if you are looking to escape the crowds and find your own little piece of paradise.
13. Caleta del Marrajo – Snorkeling and White Sand
Caleta del Marrajo is another hidden gem in the area of El Cotillo. This beach has a large expanse of white sand and waters ideal for snorkeling.
The rock formation that surrounds part of the cove creates zones perfect for exploring marine life. It is less known than other El Cotillo beaches, so it is usually quieter.
14. Playa de los Ojos (El Tigre) – Natural Pools

Playa del Castillo in Caleta de Fuste is a quiet beach with blonde sand and calm waters all year round, thanks to the fact that it is located in a protected bay on the east coast.
It is very safe and perfect for families with children. It has all the necessary infrastructure: showers, beach bars, hammock and umbrella rentals. It is not the most spectacular on the island, but it serves its purpose perfectly if you are looking for comfort and safety.

Playa de Ajuy occupies a bay of 270 meters covered by fine and shiny black volcanic sand. There is also a restaurant to have something to eat with sea views. It is right next to the Esquinzo Butihondo residential area, which gives you easy access to restaurants and shops if you need them. The sand is fine and the waters are usually quite calm.
20. Popcorn Beach – Unique and Photogenic
We close our top 20 with one of the most curious and unique places in Fuerteventura, Playa del Bajo de la Burra, better known as Popcorn Beach. The eroded white coral (rhodoliths) on the shore of this beach has created formations that literally look like popcorn.
It is super photogenic and a unique spot that you won’t find anywhere else. Although it is small and we wouldn’t choose it to spend the whole day, it is definitely worth the visit to see this particular natural phenomenon. Practical Tips for Enjoying the Best Beaches in Fuerteventura
After five years living on the island, we learned some fundamental things. The first: the wind. Fuerteventura is known as “the land of great winds.” The trade winds blow constantly, especially in summer.
Always carry a jacket or windbreaker, even on sunny days. On the beach, secure all your belongings well. Things blew away from us several times for not taking precautions.
About transportation: to truly enjoy the best beaches, it is highly recommended to rent a car. For remote beaches like Cofete or some on the Jandía peninsula, it is ideal to have a high-clearance vehicle or 4×4, although with a regular car and care, you can also manage.
Sun protection: the Canary sun is very strong. With the wind, sometimes you don’t realize you are burning. Use high-factor sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours.
Water and provisions: many of the most beautiful beaches don’t have services nearby. We always carry a backpack with mate, water, fruit, and snacks. It is essential to stay hydrated.

Best Time to Visit Fuerteventura’s Beaches
One of the great advantages of Fuerteventura is its privileged climate. With more than 300 days of sun per year and mild temperatures all year round, practically any time is good to enjoy its beaches.
In summer (July-August), temperatures hover around 25-28°C and the water is warmer (22°C), but there is also more wind and more tourists. It is the best time for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Winter (December-February) is quieter. Temperatures drop a little (18-22°C) but remain very pleasant. The water is colder (18-19°C) but perfectly enjoyable. We spent several fabulous winters in Fuerteventura!
Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are probably the best times. Perfect temperatures, less wind than in summer, fewer people, and slightly more affordable prices.
Where to Stay to Explore the Best Fuerteventura Beaches
The choice of accommodation depends on which beaches you want to prioritize. We lived in four different areas:
Staying in Corralejo is ideal for infinite white sand beaches, dunes, and having nightlife, restaurants, and shops nearby. It’s perfect as a base. Also ideal for visiting Isla de Lobos.
Sleeping in El Cotillo is an excellent area if you are looking for tranquility, authenticity, and the best white sand coves. It has excellent fresh fish restaurants and magical sunsets.
Accommodations in Costa Calma and Morro Jable are perfect for the beaches in the south, especially Sotavento. They are good bases for exploring the Jandía peninsula and visiting Cofete.
TIP: if you are going to stay for several days, split your stay between at least two different areas to enjoy both the north and the south without long daily trips.
