1. The Fuente del Rey
The symbol of Priego and, for us, the perfect starting point: a monumental Baroque fountain with 139 spouts, completed in 1803 and surrounded by greenery. It’s a national monument and a corner of calm in the middle of town.
2. The Fuente de la Salud
Right next to it, the Fuente de la Salud is older: it dates from the 16th century, with a Mannerist façade by Francisco del Castillo. Together they form one of the loveliest ensembles in Andalusia.
3. The Barrio de la Villa
The heart of Priego: a quarter with a medieval Muslim street layout, declared a historic-artistic site in 1972, with narrow white lanes, flower pots and charming little houses. A good route is to go in through Plaza de Santa Ana and continue along Calle Real, the little Plaza de San Antonio, Calle Jazmines and the Bajondillo all the way to the Adarve.
4. The Balcón del Adarve
Priego’s most famous viewpoint: a walkway along the edge of a natural cliff that opens up like a balcony over the Andalusian landscape. Perfect at sunset.
5. Priego castle
At the top of the town, the castle offers panoramic views of Priego and its surroundings. You can climb the 15th-century towers of the main façade and the three-storey Torre del Homenaje (the keep). Since July 2026 there’s also a new area open to visitors, with online ticket sales and audio guides in five languages.

6. The Church of the Asunción and its Sagrario
A masterpiece that blends its 16th-century Gothic-Mudéjar origins with a major Baroque renovation. Its jewel is the Sagrario (the sacrarium chapel), by Francisco Javier Pedrajas (1772-1784), a national monument since 1932 and one of the high points of Andalusian Baroque.
7. The Church of the Aurora
A Baroque church from the mid-18th century, built over an old 15th-century chapel. Another jewel of Priego’s Baroque.
8. The Church of San Francisco
A former 16th-century convent renovated in the 18th century, with the chapel of Jesús Nazareno and its statue by Pablo de Rojas.
9. The Carnicerías Reales
A Renaissance building from 1576-1579 that was used as a slaughterhouse and meat market. Its big surprise is the spiral staircase.
10. The Niceto Alcalá-Zamora House Museum
The birthplace of the first president of the Second Spanish Republic, now a museum. Interesting for understanding the town’s history.
11. The Recreo de Castilla
A historic garden, also known as the Huerta de las Infantas, perfect for a break in the shade.
12. The Sierras Subbéticas
Priego is one of the eight municipalities of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, which is also a UNESCO Geopark. This is where you’ll find La Tiñosa (1,570 m), the highest peak in the province. If you have more days, there are amazing hiking trails.
