We visited in spring<\/strong>, when the weather is perfect: sunshine, a soft breeze and flowers everywhere \ud83c\udf38. As soon as we arrived, we felt that mix of calm and magic you only find in a few places in the world. How to get to Hallstatt from Vienna, Salzburg or Graz<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Getting to Hallstatt is part of the charm. From Vienna<\/strong>, the easiest way is to take a train to Attnang-Puchheim<\/strong> and from there another one to Hallstatt Bahnhof<\/strong>, on the other side of the lake. Then you cross on a ferry that drops you right in front of the village —an epic, movie-worthy arrival \ud83c\udfac.<\/p>\n

From Salzburg<\/strong>, the trip is shorter (about two and a half hours by train), and if you are coming from Graz<\/strong> or Innsbruck<\/strong>, it is worth renting a car to enjoy the Alpine scenery.<\/p>\n

We chose to rent a car and drive from Salzburg to Hallstatt (it took us about 1:30 h, 75 km), and honestly it was one of the best experiences of the trip: watching the village appear between the mountains is unforgettable.<\/p>\n

Important<\/strong>: keep in mind that you can’t use the car in Hallstatt itself; it stays in the parking lot.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Where to stay in Hallstatt: lake views or the heart of the village<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Spending the night in Hallstatt is worth every euro. We stayed two nights<\/strong> in a hotel looking straight onto the lake \ud83c\udfde\ufe0f and it was a dream: waking up to the mountains reflected on the water is something we still remember with a smile.<\/p>\n

There are options for every budget: from family-run guesthouses<\/strong> in the historic center to boutique hotels<\/strong> with terraces facing the lake. Our advice: if you can, stay at least one or two nights<\/strong>. During the day there are tourists, but in the late afternoon the village empties out and you feel an incredible peace.
