1. East Princes Street Gardens \u2013 Christmas Market: the main one<\/h3>\n

The Christmas Market in East Princes Street Gardens is the largest and the main Christmas market in Edinburgh<\/strong>. It has everything!: crafts, local gourmet delicacies, gifts, mulled wine, and much more. The view is one-of-a-kind: the wooden stalls with the illuminated castle in the background and the Scott Monument peeking through the lights.<\/p>\n

It also features a very fun small amusement park: the Forth 1 Big Wheel, the Star Flyer with its flying chairs, and more. Past the station, on the walk through Princes Street Gardens, there are also lights and Christmas decorations.<\/p>\n

Entry to the market is free<\/strong>; you only pay for the attractions. 2. George Street & Castle Street \u2013 Christmas Market: the quietest one<\/h3>\n

It is much smaller than the other one, but also quieter. It is located on George Street, where the carousel is, between Frederick Street and Castle Street. This is also where the Ice Rink<\/strong> is located, one of the nicest activities of the season: skating at night, surrounded by illuminated Georgian buildings, is a fantastic plan.<\/p>\n

Opposite the square is the luxury Gleneagles Townhouse hotel, with amazing Christmas decorations, and very close by is The Edinburgh Grand with its beautiful giant nutcrackers at the entrance. Walk the unmissable Royal Mile and see the fabulous Edinburgh Castle<\/h3>\n

Depending on which side of the city you are in, a very nice walk is to go up the stairs of Victoria Street and walk along the Royal Mile to the castle. The Royal Mile is a trip back in time and is gorgeous everywhere; there are many unmissable narrow alleys!<\/p>\n

At Christmas, you’ll find bagpipes, lights, a Christmas tree, and many decorations. Explore the cobblestone streets, poke your head into the closes (the narrow passages), and visit local shops to find unique souvenirs. The interior seemed very interesting to us, with very original souvenirs and pieces of art by local creators. See the Castle of Light: the illuminated castle<\/h3>\n

During the Christmas season, Edinburgh Castle becomes the stage for Castle of Light<\/strong>: a show of lights and projections on the castle walls and courtyards. It is a paid event on specific dates<\/a> (it doesn’t run every day), so it’s a good idea to check the calendar and book ahead. The last edition was from late November to early January, on selected nights.<\/p>\n

The Christmas season officially kicks off with Light Night<\/strong>, the lighting of the city lights toward the end of November, with choirs and live music.
