It is the main street, with boutiques, ice cream parlors, bars with outdoor seating, hotels, and the bus stop for all lines.

We walked it several times a day and every moment has its charm: in the morning it is quiet, with neighbors buying bread; in the afternoon it fills up with people returning from the beach. And at night, with the lights on and the terraces busy, it has the air of an Italian coastal town that Venice lost decades ago.

Worth noting: right at the beginning of the Gran Viale there are several bicycle rental shops. The Blue Moon beach, the easiest of all

If you have a few hours and want to see the beach in Lido di Venezia without any hassle, this is it. It’s at the end of the Gran Viale, in Piazzale Bucintoro, ten minutes from the vaporetto. You can recognize it by that strange salmon-colored building, with its aluminum tower: it looks like a spaceship stranded in front of the Adriatic.

The communal Blue Moon beach opens before the rest of the resorts and closes later: in 2026 the season runs from the end of April until September 20, right after the Film Festival. The water depth increases very gradually, ideal if you are traveling with children, and the water has been a blue flag beach for years. Previously, this was where the Playa Blanca Di Benvenuti Matteo was located.

The best part is that you don’t need to pay to see the sea: there are free access areas and also sections with umbrellas and sunbeds. In peak season, book your umbrella online the day before, because weekends get booked out. The umbrella + two sunbeds combo costs around 25-35 € per day in the height of summer, and drops significantly off-peak.

Watch out for a detail almost no one clarifies: a large part of the sand on the Lido facing the Lungomare consists of private concessions of large hotels, and you only enter there if you are a guest. The truly free beaches are in San Nicolò, in the Murazzi, and in the Alberoni, in addition to the public accesses of the Blue Moon. If your plan is a free beach, aim for those.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=»https://www.recalculandoviajes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/lido-venecia-playa-blue-moon.webp» alt=»lido venice blue moon beach» title_text=»lido venice blue moon beach» _builder_version=»4.27.6″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_column type=»4_4″ _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_text _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»]

3. The Lungomare Marconi and the classic beach cabins

This seaside promenade is one of the things to do in Lido di Venezia that we liked the most, and it doesn’t cost a euro. The Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi runs parallel to the Adriatic and links the historic resorts, with their orderly rows of capanne: the painted wooden beach huts that are rented by the season and are, in themselves, a postcard.

Walk or bike it at sunset. The light turns golden, the umbrellas are already closed, and you can see the silhouettes of the large hotels in the background. We did it almost every day and we never got bored.

One detail that caught our attention: many Venetian families have rented the same cabin for generations. You see grandparents playing cards at the door while their grandchildren return from the water. That is something you can’t buy.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=»https://www.recalculandoviajes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/que-ver-en-lido-lungomare-marconi.webp» alt=»things to do in lido lungomare marconi» title_text=»things to do in lido lungomare marconi» _builder_version=»4.27.6″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_column type=»4_4″ _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_text _builder_version=»4.27.6″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»]

4. The Hotel Excelsior, the most photogenic building on the island

Of all the places of interest in Lido di Venezia, this is the one that impressed us most from the outside. The Hotel Excelsior opened in 1908 and its Moorish-inspired architecture, with domes, arches, and brick, looks like nothing else in the lagoon. You can see it from the Lungomare Marconi, behind its gates, with the garden overgrown and the shutters closed: it is impressive and a bit sad at the same time. The good news is that things are finally moving. In August 2026, the first roof maintenance work began, with an announced investment of 200 million euros to turn it into a luxury resort, and the reopening is projected for 2030.

So, if you go now, you will still see it in its ghost version. The Palazzo del Cinema and the Casino Palace

On the Lungomare Marconi, almost attached, are the two rationalist buildings from the thirties that gave the island world fame. They run for several kilometers along the southern coast: the bike path passes above, while the waves break below, creating stone coves where locals lie down to sunbathe.

We arrived here following the lungomare towards the south and it was our favorite part of the whole island. There are no hotels, no aligned umbrellas, there is nothing: just stone, wind, and open sea. If you are coming from the Venice of the crowds, the contrast is brutal.

Worth noting: the rocks are irregular and slippery when wet. Wear sneakers or sandals with a good grip, and be careful with children.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_column type=»4_4″ _builder_version=»4.24.0″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»][et_pb_text _builder_version=»4.27.6″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}»]

8. Malamocco, the oldest village in the lagoon

If there is one place on the island that we loved, it is this one. Malamocco is halfway between the center and Alberoni, surrounded by a canal, and looks like a Venice in miniature: narrow streets, cobbled squares, and low-rise colorful houses, with about a thousand inhabitants living their lives.

And it is not a set. It was one of the first settlements in the lagoon, known in Roman times as Metamaucum, and in the 8th century it became the Venetian ducal seat, before power moved to the Rialto. The original village was destroyed in the 12th century, probably by a tidal wave.

In the Campo della Chiesa are the two key buildings: the Palazzo del Podestà, Venetian Gothic from the 15th century, with a permanent exhibition of archaeological pieces, and the church of Santa Maria Assunta, of 12th-century origin, with the statue of the Madonna della Marina and a Christ brought from Poveglia. Since the nineties, an enormous restoration effort has allowed the recovery and cataloging of nearly 1,200 tombstones, many from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Today you only enter with a guided tour, at specific openings organized by the Jewish Community of Venice, by reservation and for about 17 € per person. The main stop is called Lido S.M.E. (Santa Maria Elisabetta) and almost all lines arrive there.

By vaporetto from Venice: lines 1, 5.1, 5.2, 6, and 14 connect the Lido with San Zaccaria, San Marco, and Zattere. From San Marco it is 15-20 minutes. The single ticket costs 9.50 € and is valid for 75 minutes.

With a transport pass: it is worth getting the 24-hour pass (25 €), 48-hour pass (35 €), 72-hour pass (45 €), or 7-day pass (65 €). With three daily trips, it already pays off. Those under 30 can get the Rolling Venice card (6 €) and lower the price of the 72-hour pass.

By bus on the island: lines A, B, and 11 run from one end of the Lido to the other. The 9.50 € ticket works for boat and bus during those 75 minutes; if you are already on the island and only need the bus, there is a land ticket for 1.50 €, which is not valid for navigation. Check the updated schedules on the ACTV website.

By car: the line 17 ferry boat leaves from Tronchetto and arrives in 30-40 minutes. It is one of the very few islands in the lagoon you can enter with a car. If you are driving, we always compare car rental prices here.

From Marco Polo airport: Alilaguna boats arrive at the Lido with the Blue and Red lines in just over an hour. They are not included in ACTV tickets and are paid separately, between 15 and 18 € each way.
