General overview of the island<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands<\/strong> and, for us, one of the most magical. Its arid and lunar landscape, its turquoise sea, and its constant wind create a unique combination that surprises at first, but captures you afterward.<\/p>\n

We lived in various parts of the island, in the north, in Corralejo<\/strong><\/a>, and also some days in El Cotillo<\/strong><\/a>. In the middle, in Costa Antigua<\/strong> the first time we discovered Fuerte, and finally in the South (Costa Calma<\/strong> and Morro Jable<\/strong>). Therefore, we didn’t get to travel around the entire island, but quite a bit, except for some corners that we still have pending, haha.<\/p>\n

It has more than 150 kilometers of beaches<\/strong>, most of them virgin, and that sense of spaciousness not easily found in Europe. How to get there and get around the island<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Fuerteventura is very well connected. You can fly directly to Fuerteventura Airport (FUE)<\/strong> from Madrid<\/strong>, Barcelona, London<\/strong>, or various European cities. There are also ferries from Lanzarote<\/strong>, Gran Canaria<\/strong>, and Tenerife<\/strong> (usually with a transfer).<\/p>\n

There is public bus transport<\/strong> (called Guaguas in the Canaries), but the frequency is not very good and it only reaches the main towns. Or you have to change and\/or transfer in the capital, Puerto del Rosario.<\/p>\n

But if there is one thing we learned from the first day, it is that renting a car is essential<\/strong>. Many of the most beautiful beaches or viewpoints are far away and can only be reached by dirt roads. We always recommend carrying water, sunscreen, and checking the fuel tank well before leaving, especially if you are going to explore the south.<\/p>\n
