When we arrived from Split and saw that turquoise water among the pine trees, we were left speechless. 1. Punta Rata, the jewel of Brela beach in Croatia<\/h2>\n

If there is one image that sums up why Brela is famous worldwide, it’s this one. Punta Rata<\/strong> is about 800 meters northwest of the center and is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful beaches we saw in the entire country. Forbes included it in its top 10 most beautiful beaches on the planet back in 2004, and it also holds the Blue Flag, the distinction that rewards the cleanliness of the water and the environment.<\/p>\n

What makes it so special? The water. A turquoise that looks photoshopped but is real, with a light pebble bottom that gives it that color. All around, centuries-old pine trees that reach almost to the shore and give you natural shade (pure gold in the middle of summer). We arrived early, around mid-morning, and you could still walk around peacefully. 2. Kamen Brela, the rock that makes everyone fall in love<\/h2>\n

In the middle of the sea, right in front of Punta Rata, there is a rock with a pine tree growing on the top. It is called Kamen Brela<\/strong> (or \u00abthe rock of Brela\u00bb) and it is the symbol of this entire place. It is one of those spots that steals your heart the moment you see it. We took about fifty photos from the same angle, hahaha, we couldn’t leave. Walking north from Punta Rata, along the path that skirts the coast, you reach Podra\u010de<\/strong>, another of the beaches you can’t miss. Many consider it the most photogenic cove in the entire Makarska Riviera, and we truly understand why: the combination of pine trees, rocks, and transparent water is cinematic.<\/p>\n

It is well equipped, with a small bar nearby for a cold beer or an ice cream after a swim. One of the things to do in Brela is exactly this: go jumping from cove to cove along the coastal promenade, without rushing, stopping where you like. Brela has a beautiful seaside promenade of several kilometers, known as the \u0160etali\u0161te<\/strong> (or \u00abLongo Mare\u00bb), which connects almost all of its beaches. It is flat, shaded, and skirts the sea the entire time. For us, walking it was one of the best parts of the day.<\/p>\n

You pass through hidden coves, rocks, pine forests, and viewpoints that appear out of nowhere. Every so often you get the urge to jump into the water. If you visit Brela, even for just a few hours, do this walk by all means. It’s free, it’s peaceful, and it shows you the best side of the place. The town itself is small but charming. It has a center with bars, restaurants, and a nice view of the marina, where you can see little boats and the occasional yacht. It is not an imposing historic center, but it is a beautiful walk and has a relaxed Mediterranean vibe.<\/p>\n

Among the little streets you will find the church of St. Nicholas<\/strong> (Sveti Nikola), a simple little chapel with a lot of local flavor. Towards the north of the town stretches Soline<\/strong>, one of the most comfortable beaches if you are traveling with family. It has easy access to shops and restaurants, a great playground, and even a floating water park right in front. The bottom is pebbles, like almost all of them in Brela, but the entry to the water is gentle. Its name comes from \u00abvrulja\u00bb, which in Croatian refers to a freshwater spring that bubbles up near the shore. The result? The water there is noticeably colder and of stunning transparency.<\/p>\n

We didn’t make it to Vrulja on our one-day visit, but many travelers recommend it as one of the most pristine corners of the entire Riviera. If you have time and the desire to walk, they say the reward is worth it. It is not one of the most famous, and precisely for that reason many travelers mention it as a good plan B for high season days, when the central beaches get crowded. We came from Split thinking of \u00abspending a while\u00bb and ended up staying until the sun started to go down. We jumped from Punta Rata to the coastal promenade, had something to eat by the sea, and ended with one last swim when there were fewer people.<\/p>\n

If you are looking for a beach with everything at hand and without leaving the center, Pla\u017ea Maestral is the answer. It is right in the heart of Brela, on the main promenade, and is one of the most equipped in the entire area: lounge chairs, umbrellas, showers, a floating aquapark for the kids, bar and restaurant just meters away. Many travelers choose it for this reason, especially those traveling with family.<\/p>\n

The setting remains typical of Brela: light pebbles, turquoise water, and pine trees that provide shade without having to search for it. It is one of the busiest in high season, so if you want a quiet place arrive early or bet on one of the more hidden coves.
